Introducing New Deacon Candidates for 2025
The Deacon Ministry introduces the following candidates for Deacon Ministry beginning January 2025. An ordination service and reception will be held in the Worship Center on Sunday, November 17, at 6:00 p.m.
Lenin and Lourdes Aguilar
Lenin and Lourdes joined FBCG in 2011, and since then they and their daughter Camila have found a home within the Hispanic ministry. Lenin accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior in a bible study group that they started in their home lead by Houston and Charlotte Greenhaw. On Mondays Lenin leads an online Bible study with a group in Honduras where his dad accepted Jesus as his savior. He serves in the media team during the the Hispanic service at 11:30 a.m. Lenin also enjoyed teaching ESL at the church for about five years, as well as translating for Pastor Houston whenever he needed it. Lenin has also been a part of the Hispanic drama team. The drama team was able to film a short film that will hopefully be shared one day with other churches. Lourdes is part of the Hispanic worship team and enjoys helping around the ministry. On Tuesdays they lead a Bible study that focuses on married couples. They aim to share their experiences in navigating their faith throughout the challenges of marriage. They are also members of the Hispanic congregation choir. Lenin and Lourdes enjoy spending time with each other and their friends and family. They hope to share the gospel to young couples and enjoy serving the Lord in their community. |
Hieu Doan
Hieu joined FBC Garland in 2014 and a member of Discovery Sunday School class since 2014. Hieu and Tina have been married for 38 years and have two adult children, Timothy and Thomas, Tina is a member of Vietnamese Faith Baptist church in Dallas and does the home care for her mom. Hieu enjoys mission trips from his first trip to Rockport, TX after hurricane Harvey to "Eyes Glasses" mission trips to Jordan and Romania, mission trips to bring joy to children from Ukraine in Poland and Romania, mission trips to McAllen, TX to work with Buckner group and mission trips to Vietnam. Hieu enjoys singing in the church choir, work as helper in the VBS, spending time working at Friendship House, going around fixing houses with Steve King in the Men's ministries. Spending lots of time traveling with family and enjoying hiking with his two sons.

Joshua and Julie Ezagui
Josh and Julie Ezagui have been members of FBC Garland for 2 years. They met at UMHB and have been married for 28 years. They have 5 children, 3 adults and 2 still at home, and a grandchild. Josh has taught adult Sunday School over the past 20 years. He has lead Operation Christmas Child activities. He has also been involved in upwards and is currently a basketball coach for 4th and 5th grade girls. Currently, Julie teaches 6th grade girls and Josh is teaching 8th grade boys in the youth department. They have served in Sunday School and participated in various mission trips over the years, most recently the Wisconsin Soccer camp. They enjoy playing board games, watching mysteries and visiting the Mountains in Colorado. |
Ivan and Melissa Fernandez
Ivan gave his heart to the Lord in his mid 20's. Our lives were changed and we will be forever grateful to the Lord for His mercy and gift of salvation to our family. Ivan and Melissa are directors of a Sunday School department. Ivan serves in the First Impressions ministry as a Golf Cart Driver. We have been on several international and domestic mission trips with FBCG through the years with our family. We have served in bed babies, VBS, teaching youth, teaching young adults and are presently directors of an active Sunday School class Set Apart. We came to FBCG when our children were in middle school. Ivan was born in Juarez, Mexico and moved to El Paso during his elementary school years. In 8th grade Ivan and Melissa began dating and have been married 32 years and have three children, one son in law and two grandchildren Judah and Jubilee.

Omar and Paula Garcia
Omar and Paula have attended the Spanish Ministry at FBCG since 2012. They are high school sweethearts who have been together for over 13 years and on their 3rd year of marriage. Omar and Paula came to know the Lord as teenagers, and now they assist in ministering to the high school/college students in the Spanish Ministry. As first-generation Christians in both families, they embrace this beautiful journey on their walk with the Lord. This new life has provided opportunities to serve overseas and locally, in the FBCG community, and more importantly within their own family to share the unconditional love of God. Omar and Paula enjoy traveling, exercising, being outdoors, grocery shopping together, and love eating. Their marriage motto is: The Lord has united two imperfect people perfect for each other.

Corky and Pam Hall
Corky and Pam feel they were divinely led to FBC Garland about 5 years ago in August of 2019. They quickly felt welcomed and at home and are grateful to be a part of the FBCG Family. They became members of the Forever Young Sunday School Department where they serve as Group Leaders for the in-reach in that department. Corky serves in the First Coffee Ministry and is also currently a member of the Legacy Building Committee. Pam joined the Sanctuary Choir and now holds an office in the choir. Pam is in charge of the Christmas decorations for the Worship Center, and she enjoys helping with VBS every summer. They were blessed to be on the December 2022 trip to Israel and be baptized by Pastor Greg and Camden in the Jordan River. Pam and Corky have been married for 44 years. They have two adult children, Hayley Hangartner (and husband Jerod) and Courter Hall (and wife Meagan) and four delightful grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with their family and friends, traveling, and they especially love attending and furthering their spiritual growth at FBCG. |
Keith and Erin Montgomery
Keith and Erin are members of the Forever Young Sunday School Department. They serve in the First Coffee Ministry, are active in Bible Study Fellowship and have been on the Eye Glass Mission Trip to Paraguay twice. Keith serves on the Missions Committee as its current chair and has been a member of the Tanzania Mission Trip team twice. Keith and Erin have been married for 45 years and have two adult sons and three grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren, travelling and participating in various outdoor activities. |
Billy Ray and Loretta Vaughan
Billy Ray and Loretta Vaughan have been members of the First Baptist Church Garland since 2021. They are also actively involved in the Forever Young Sunday School Class. Billy Ray serves as an usher for the 8:45 church service. He also volunteers at the Friendship House weekly by picking up and delivering donated food from two local Kroger Grocery Stores. Billy Ray also finds time to assist the youth by keeping score for their Upward basketball games. In addition, he has been involved with the homeless ministry at the Dallas Union Gospel Mission for more than 22 years. The Lord crossed the paths later in life for Billy Ray and Loretta. They have been married for 5 years. He has 3 children: Jamie, Natasha, and Billy Ray Jr. He also has 2 grandchildren. During his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. |

Deacon Ministry
QUALIFICATIONS OF A DEACON
The word “deacon” means servant or minister and came to be used by the church to designate a special position in the church. The deaconship, therefore, signifies a position of special Christian service. Both the Scripture and the dignity of the office demand a person of the highest spiritual, moral and practical qualifications:
I. SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS (ACTS 6:1-6)
A. Full of the Holy Spirit
B. Full of wisdom
C. Full of faith
II. MORAL QUALIFICATIONS (I TIMOTHY 3: 8-10, 12-13)
A. Worthy of respect
B. Sincere
C. Not indulging in much wine
D. Not pursuing dishonest gain
E. The husband of one wife
F. Manages his children and household well
III. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE WIFE OF A DEACON (I TIMOTHY 3:11)
A. Worthy of respect
B. Not malicious talker
D. Temperate
F. Trustworthy in everything
IV. PRACTICAL DUTIES
A. Loyal support of the pastor and staff
B. Faithful attendance at the services of the church
C. Encouragement of and participation in the organizations of the church -
Sunday School, Music, Church Training, Outreach, Prayer Room, etc.
D. "A consistent commitment to stewardship shall be attested by the
Deacon's example of tithing to the Church."

E. Personal evangelism among the lost and visitation of the
sick, shut-ins and indifferent of the membership
F. Regular attendance at the meetings of the deacons
G. Assistance with new member assimilation
H. Participation in the "Deacons of the Week" assignments
